Feeling so uninspired this morning, perhaps I should just stay on Lina Scheynius' site a bit longer and let some of her dreamy photography carry me away to sleepytime.

oh my! nashville fille giveaway

Vintage Boho Wallet at Nashville Fille
Nashville Fille's recent move from the lovely state of Tennesse all the way over to sunny California hasn't put a dent in the shop's ever growing vintage collection. Definitely a favorite Etsy shop of mine, it's filled with a lovely selection of vintage clothing and accessories for both ladies and gents. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when owner and fellow vintage lover, Courtney, said she'd love to host a giveaway and offered up this cute Vintage Boho Wallet.

It's so simple! All you need to do is head over to Nashville Fille for a peak around the shop then come back and leave a comment with your thoughts! Make sure to comment before 12:00PM CST on October 4 for a chance to win.

Next Sunday I'll randomly pick a winner to receive the ever lovely Vintage Boho Wallet from Nashville Fille. The winner will be posted Sunday evening so stay tuned!

Now run along over to Nashville Fille to check out her vintage lovelies!

my topknot: the experiment

1970s Vintage Grandpa Cardigan at Dalena Vintage
Et voila! My experiment...27 minutes total. And that's with the rollers. On a normal day I would say nix the rollers for a grand total of seven minutes. Now that's my idea of hairstyling, although I feel a bit more like Amy Winehouse than originally intended! Agreed?

topknots

On a daily basis I spend about zero to five minutes on my hair. And there's nothing about this I desire to change. I really do adore my simple morning routine but sometimes wish I could be a bit more creative with such a small amount of time and patience.

While I was traveling, I took to showering at night and sleeping on wet hair after running a bit of Aveda Smoothing Serum through it. Most mornings I woke with a nice natural bed head look, but every once and awhile after sleeping the wrong way, I would wake looking as if I had some oddly mishaped head. What to do on these unfortunate mornings?

Enter the topknot.

With so many variations, naturally I'm a fan of the tousled yet put together styles. Think Jenni Kayne from last Spring only messier and you'll be right there with me. I'm thinking for today's photoshoot, I'll have a go with my own interepretation. Which actually means, I'm aiming for the look, but with my hair skills we'll see what comes out!

From what I've gathered, I'll have to start with lots of texture in my hair. Apparently Kayne’s models were styled by Ted Gibson and his own Fix It Gel mixed with a bit of Tame It Shine Lotion. I'll just make do with what product I can find lying around. Then blow dry away sans brush for added texture. (I should have no problem with seeing as I only recently added a brush to my bathroom!) I might even try to add some body with my trusty travel rollers.

Hair prepped and ready, I'll pull it up into a ponytail, tousle it up a bit and fasten it into a bun with a few bobby pins and of course hair spray...Lots of hairspray. So, um, this is the plan. We'll see what happens!

Topknot tips anyone? Or for that matter, speedy styling tips for the hair styling handicapped?

Just a look at one photo had me vying for more of Iris Satijn's portfolio. With her quirky pairings, it's no wonder the Amsterdam-based stylist has work featured in some of my favorite magazines including the ever lovely N.E.E.T Magazine. I quite love this shoot and was thinking as I perused the photos, how fun would it be to dress up as Charlie Chaplin for Halloween? Last year I was Amelia Earheart, so perhaps I should just keep with the historical theme! I mean these photos just scream silent film dancer, no? And then of course, when I actually got down to reading a bit more about the shoot, lo and behold...Charlie C. was here. Costume ideas anyone?

After several weeks of minimal Internet, I spent the last few days catching up and oh my what I've found thanks to a lovely little posting over at Sally Jane Vintage.

Well, what could it be? New Zealand designer, Juliette Hogan's latest collection of course! I'm completely enamored I must say. But wait which one, you ask? Well both actually, although naturally I'm drawn to Mind Your Manners, her Winter 09 collection. How wonderful is it that she keeps both hemispheres in mind!

What I wouldn't do for an occasion to strut around demurely in one of the above dresses.

coming soon

These lovely vintage pieces will soon be found in the shop. Stop in later this evening if you like what you see!

alive and well

Lack of new blog postings. No fresh pieces in the shop. Complete online absence. Despite what these signs may point to, I am still alive! Just on a bit a of holiday in celebration of my new found independence.

When my brother asked me to join him on a road trip from Austin to Seattle a few weeks ago, how could a sister refuse! And then after thinking about it, I mean, really, how could I get all the way up to Seattle and not visit Vancouver? And then, wait, one night with my best friend in San Francisco just wasn't enough so of course I had to make a pit stop in the city on my way back down to Austin. So here I am, still on holiday in San Francisco, but feeling quite at home in Nancy's cozy kitchen in the Mission. Sipping on Orange Spice Tea and playing catch up to all that I've missed in the past two weeks. Help!

I had grand plans for my road trip. Documenting everything along the way and keeping up the blog but alas, these did not happen. I was absorbed in my books driving through the desert. Searching the atlas for oddly named cities along our route. Got caught up staring out the window all through Northern California and Oregon too. And all the niceties that go along with road tripping sprinkled of course with heaps of cat naps.

So in essence, this is a post to let you know, yes, I still exist in this world. And yes, I'll be back in the swing of things this week!
