I had already written this post using my favorite ribbon, Midori double-faced satin, as inspiration when I received an email from a friend this weekend…a sad email…
Dear MIDORI Customers:
US and China trade relations have been in the news a lot recently. The complaint about Chinese manufacturers has been that they have an unfair advantage they maintain by keeping the value of their currency artificially low relative to the dollar.
We have not been concerned, since our Chinese product is of the highest quality, and we sell on the basis of superior quality and superior service, not price.
Unfortunately, a recent ruling by the US Department of Commerce to impose tariffs on all fabric ribbon made in China has affected us along with the makers of low-quality low-cost ribbon.
We cannot even appeal this ruling for one year, but as we wait, we are committed to finding a high quality substitute at a comparable price.
We've been able to accommodate the majority of orders thus far with our considerable stock of Double-Faced Satin. However, we hope that you will make your holiday purchases of available stock very soon to avoid disappointment, as the satin is available on a first come, first serve basis.
At this point, it is difficult to predict where the holes will be, but some popular skus have already sold out and will not be replenished in the near future. Our Customer Service department and your local MIDORI reps are available to help you select alternate colors and sizes if we sell out of something that you need.
We are grateful for your understanding and support as we weather this trade-war induced situation. If you have any question or concerns, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Christian Fulghum, Vice President
