roaring 20s

I am completely smitten with Chris Nicholls' collection of photographs, Roaring 20s. From tones and focus to makeup and styling, everything, it seems, is spot on.

it's all in the name

It's true, yes, I'm hopelessly captivated by those vintage sellers whose photos seem to effortlessy seduce me into their shops. But no, forget not! The name. The title. The screamer. Behold! Headline to article, there's always something to be said for those shops whose words entice grins and giggles in a single line.

A shop I recently came across (and immediately fell in love with) does just this with its nostalgic names. Thrush is filled to the brim with words reminiscent of women from eras past and uber cute frocks and sunnies to boot!

Then there's Tilted Tulip Vintage whose cutesy clever names allude bits of literature, indie actresses and other lovely thoughts passing through the wind. I admit, perhaps my love is a teensy bit bias as Little Brown Jug just happens to be a song I'm quite fond of! Nonetheless it's a treasure trove of a shop.

let's get away from it all

With June half past, so have passed 16 days of my month long restaurant ban. Difficult? Well, yes, actually. I had only an inkling of how many of my social excursions revolve around dining out. Needless to say, in the past few weeks I've become quite proficient in the art of politely declining lunch dates and weekend brunches. But food and entertainment are such a perfect match, how ever can a girl resist! And so it is, cooking with roommates, dinner parties, potlucks and picnics are now in full swing.

And oh, the picnic, how wonderful you are! Perusing Etsy, I couldn't help but dream of toting the above to my next outdoor excursion.

the breeze and i

Vintage Swimwear

Four, five, maybe six years have passed since I invested in swimwear that’s new to me. The slightly strange thing about this is that I’m actually an avid swimmer. And now, with summer upon us, (insert jubilation here) I find myself lounging or lapping in sports bras, panties or whatever suitable swimsuitesque attire I find hiding in my drawers.

The time, I think, has come. Oh swimsuit! Wherever you may be, do say you hold the following affections…Time worn beauty. Utilitarian raison d'ĂȘtre. Unsurpassed comfort.

Enter 1940’s swimwear. Though I wouldn’t exactly call the girdle the ultimate in comfort, I can’t imagine these to be anywhere near the unpleasantness experienced by many a Southern belle. And truly, the idea of keeping all my parts nicely tucked away while swimming laps is rather appealing especially considering I have a hard time keeping my current garment of choice on my body!

Now let us dive in with two essentials as seen above…

The June Night Romper Swimsuit at 13 Bees Vintage is a perfect match for my aquatic needs. I just stumbled upon this Etsy shop a few days ago on my quest for a suit, and my, what a find! It’s filled to the brim with heaps of vintage gems and expressive titles to match.

The Sava Wave Rubber Petal Swim Cap at Glamoursurf.com is pure glamour in itself, not to mention ideal for keeping your have in place during laps. Affordable accessories, it’s true. But sadly the suits themselves are a bit pricey. And with loads of swoon-worthy pieces from as early as the turn-of-the-century, Glamoursurf is purely eye candy. Well that is to say for me.

To dream or to purchase? I think it may well be time for the later.

sabering weekend fun

Oh what a lovely weekend it was! Filled with evening picnics, Romeo and Juliet with a Latin twist, tiny road trip to Buda in search of abandoned houses, a birthday dinner party complete with champagne sabering and delicious home-cooked migas.
