the 1920s bra a la leslie

Combine one part lack of motivation with one part procrastination, and Tuesday's project easily becomes Friday's! I had planned on whipping this up earlier in the week but didn't end up picking up the hankies until yesterday morning and then waited until this afternoon to delve into stitching. So really I'm only a few days behind schedule, not too shabby for someone who is quite talented in the art of procrastination!

Et voila! Here's what happened when I followed that 1920s tutorial on crafting a bra from hankies I posted earlier this week...

1920s Bra

The video was not exactly detail oriented, so I ended up straying a bit from the tutorial along the way and doing several alterations to the final piece, including darts to make the cups a bit more shapely. I don't know if you'd ever catch me wearing this as an actual bra, but it is definitely comfy for bedtime!

supermarket sarah

Supermarket Sarah
Do you ever have those why didn't I think of that moments? Well of course you do! I can't imagine anyone not having one of those moments at least once a month. This month's moment for me arose during a daily Internet foraging session when I came across the charming online boutique-of-sorts, Supermarket Sarah.

The concept is brilliant really, it combines the straightforward layout of a brick and mortar shop with the convenience of online shopping. With her handy home-base located just around the corner from Portobello Market, Sarah has ventured out from her stall in the actual market and set up shop in her own home. Thankfully for all of us residing outside the realm of the all-embracing market, she's turned this home shop into an online showroom featuring a variety of market finds. A place in which shopping is as easy as clicking on the piece you like, purchasing et viola...a little bit of Portobello loveliness delivered to your doorstep!

Although the current homepage actually features guest-curator Fred Butler, a London-based designer and props stylist, I'm hoping to see more of Sarah's hand-picked goodies in the future. Don't get me wrong, Fred Butler's work is quite intriguing in itself, it's just I'm a sucker for the more classic finds. What do you say?

alive and well

Lack of new blog postings. No fresh pieces in the shop. Complete online absence. Despite what these signs may point to, I am still alive! Just on a bit a of holiday in celebration of my new found independence.

When my brother asked me to join him on a road trip from Austin to Seattle a few weeks ago, how could a sister refuse! And then after thinking about it, I mean, really, how could I get all the way up to Seattle and not visit Vancouver? And then, wait, one night with my best friend in San Francisco just wasn't enough so of course I had to make a pit stop in the city on my way back down to Austin. So here I am, still on holiday in San Francisco, but feeling quite at home in Nancy's cozy kitchen in the Mission. Sipping on Orange Spice Tea and playing catch up to all that I've missed in the past two weeks. Help!

I had grand plans for my road trip. Documenting everything along the way and keeping up the blog but alas, these did not happen. I was absorbed in my books driving through the desert. Searching the atlas for oddly named cities along our route. Got caught up staring out the window all through Northern California and Oregon too. And all the niceties that go along with road tripping sprinkled of course with heaps of cat naps.

So in essence, this is a post to let you know, yes, I still exist in this world. And yes, I'll be back in the swing of things this week!
