Apologies are in order for my absence! I've been a busy bee over here with the holidays, a New Year's trip up to Halifax and starting a new job. The blog and shop have been suffering, it's true. But with the new year already here, I'm back on track and am excited for the new direction both will be taking. Nothing crazy, of course! Just a little more focused. Expect more DIY tutorials, weekly recipes and a steadier stream of posts in general.

With the holiday season nearly in full effect, I pulled a few gorgeous pieces from Deoma's Boutique that would be perfect for upcoming events. I feel like it's been ages since I've had a substantial shop update. I'm working on that, promise! Until that point, here are a few lovelies that will be going up in the shop this afternoon. It's hard to let that 1940s silk number go, but alas, I am.

hello holiday

My mom, cousin and I went over to small town Texas on Sunday to photograph all of the beautiful party dresses we've been collecting for both of our shops, Dalena Vintage and Deoma's Boutique. I like to think of our shops as sisters, Deoma possessing an older air of elegance and maturity, and Dalena, surrounded by an aura of youth and flirtation with dreams of walking in her sister's shoes one day.

A gorgeous home built in the early 1900's, the house is filled with antiques and memories of annual Christmas gatherings and summer reunions. Here's the fruit of our labor.

I know I said I wasn't going to blog on the weekends anymore. But today I can't help it, I'm just too excited about these party dresses and wedding dresses from the 1950's and 1960s. Aren't they gorgeous? I'll be listing one today and the rest over the next few days. If you see a piece you can't live without, let me know and I might let ya' pre-shop!

This weekend I rescued the sweetest 1940s hats from a life of possibly never being worn. How tragic that would have been? And good news, they're already up in the shop, so head on over if you like what you see.



And on the colorized side of things, these beauties will quickly be making their way into the shop as well: A 1950s demure black lace dress and a 1940s prim rose eyelet dress. Lovely, no?

A little sneak preview of what I'm listing throughout the evening. I've also got an adorable 1930's Bonnie-esque crochet beret and 1920's silk rose chemise, so stay tuned!

My favorite is the 1950s turquoise plaid day dress, that would be the darling dress located top row center, ladies. How about you?

the 1910 lingerie dress

Last weekend my mom and I drove over to Waco for a few estate sales. Lo and behold I came across this beauty hanging from one of the bedroom doors...



The woman working the sale said she thought it belonged to either the man's mother or grandmother and dated back to around 1910. I usually don't buy pieces from around this time period but this dress was stunning and in such amazing condition for it's age. My mom said I had to at least try it on. I did and it was over. Sold! With such intricate hand-crafted detailing, how could I not? The fate of the dress is yet to be determined, but there's a large chance you'll see it up in the shop over the next few weeks.



In researching the dress, I searched around for similar dresses dating back to the same decade. Tons of family photos from the early 1900's sprang up in my quest and while looking through all those old photos I got wondering what my own family was wearing around that time. This is what I found...
