hare rama hare krishna

Perhaps it's a bit of an understatement, but lately I've had a tiny obsession with all things Bollywood. As one of my closest friends asked me to choreograph a dance for her wedding this weekend, I've been scouring youtube for Bollywood inspiration. Did I mention it's an Indian extravaganza? Oh yes, that and the fact that I've never actually choreographed a dance in my 27 years of life. A bit nerve racking indeed!

Although the dancing is nothing much from what I've seen, (I have yet to actually watch it entirely!) the music from Hare Rama Hare Krishna has me coming back daily. And yes, Zeenat Aman probably has something to do with it. She is absolutely stunning and has me parting my hair down the middle again, something I don't think I've done since middle school when I had straighter than straight hair.

1955 london (a little bit in love)

So perhaps it's old news (54 years past if you must know) but for several years now I've been coming back to Ken Russell's photo essay of London's East End Teddy Girls. Working in factories and offices by necessity. Scheming and stitching their wardrobes by desire. Ending up at milk bars nodding to music in their pencil skirts, rolled-up jeans, flat shoes and tailored jackets with velvet collars. Essentially, I'm a little bit in love with the wonderful adrogyny of it all.

dunk me & other well suited pieces

I used to set up my parents projector just to watch all the Super 8 footage my great grandmother took on her many trips around the world. From England to Morocco. Japan to Mexico. Mostly she would film gardens and architecture, but I would wait wait wait for the rare moments when she would capture herself or her travel companions.

Needless to say, I love and have always loved viewing any sort of old film clips. So when I was looking for photos of 1950s suits to inspire the suit I have loosely in created in my head, I was uber excited to find this little clip.

The multi-purposed pieces are lovely. Completely utilitarian minus the blandness I tend to find with those types. I must say though, I'm having a terrible time figuring out the obvious reason for the wing ding! Anybody?

dylan & the mop top

For some time now, I've been terribly tempted to chop my hair. Oh and that's not all...chop and perm. Yes. Twice the fright!

It has been a decade since I've permed my mane, and actually before that I think a good decade had passed since my first perm experience. (Which I might add was absolutely horrendous! Perming and cutting it all off in the height of your gawkiness does not make for a happy ending.)

And now the reason for my desire...

Mr. Bob Dylan.

Topped with the fact that Cate Blanchett portrayed him quite nicely in I'm Not There, I have to say I'm inspired.

Wonderfully carefree isn't it? From Rachel-Sarah B.'s flickr collection. I first stumbled upon her lovely do in this photo on Dep's page.

Yet again, gracefully done and oh so feminine. Perfectly spotted on The Sartorialist.
