The past few days have been a whirlwind of visitors, party planning, cooking, hostessing, eating, drinking and generally being merry. Needless to say, with this craziness I've been spending minimal time on the shop and neglecting my normal routine. So this morning, I decided not to mercilessy throw myself back in as I normally would do but ease back into work with my french press, a coffee mug and the Internet.

Inspiration is always a good way to start the week and the day for that matter...And right now I'm in love with the photography of Sarah Hermans. Oh! If only Belgium were closer to Texas I'd be on her doorstep pleading for a session.

And Stretsis, you've got me feeling sia jai knowing I'm missing out on your Bangkok based shop this Fall. Although I must say, I never could have afforded you on my meager Thai salary, let alone felt comfortable prancing around anywhere in the country but Bangkok in your Western beauties. Can you imagine sporting these in Surat Thani!

I remember walking into the Siam Square boutique sometime in 2005...Drooling...Then walking right out wishing I could afford slash had a place to wear such gorgeous clothing.

I have to say though, now that I'm back in the comfort of my own Texas home I'd love to get my hands on a few of your pieces. I'm thinking holiday wear, more specifically New Year's...And oh my, wouldn't these lovelies be the absolute!

I love the idea of wearing sunflower yellow and golden copper in celebration of the new year.




But on the other hand, how can a girl say mai ow to a perfectly classic black and white number?

A few more shots from Bastrop...Tomorrow I'm heading over to a small town my cousin told me about yesterday in hopes of finding some abandoned loveliness. Hopefully I'll return with a camera full of photos. Fingers crossed!

vintage indie

A few weeks ago, my mom spied a photo taken by a friend and immediately thought it would be a perfect spot to snap a few photographs for the shop. Two weeks and one phone call later, we were off to investigate and boy she couldn't have been more right!

We ended up in the abandoned historical district of Bastrop, a small town about 30 miles southeast of Austin. Overflowing with old-timey gadgets and vines, it was the perfect place to photograph, minus the killer mosquitoes that is. And a girl couldn't have asked for more perfect timing, as I had promised the super sweet Gabreial over at Vintage Indie a lookbook this very week.

I'll post a few more of the photos this evening so you can catch a glimpse for yourself, but in the meantime take a peak at the lookbook in full over on Vintage Indie.

Lately I've noticed my love for vintage hats has begun to grow and immensely so. Hence, two postings in a row on the topic! My apologies to all you non lovers out there. I really don't mean to be a bore, but oh what a day today was when I came across a slew of the most adorable hats from the Fifties and Sixties. A few of them went up in the shop yesterday and the rest are coming this morning.

I'm kind of in love with the Russianesque fur number, it reminds me of something Lara from Dr. Zhivago would wear. Thoughts?

turbans

It's funny, I always associate the turban with summertime, sand and swimsuits. But this evening, I was ecstatic to find The Sartorialist had captured the turban in it's full Fall flare.




And the reason I was searching for turbans? Well last month, while shopping, I came across a few vintage turbans which I quickly snatched up. The thought was I'd either put them up in the shop or sport them through the Fall, but after photographing and posting both of them today I realized I actually want to keep one. However, tragically it was too late...They were already up in the shop! So off, I am, to scout out the perfect turban for my Fall wardrobe. I'm thinking green velvet would be the absolute. As in Scarlett O'Hara's make shift recession gown green. No?

So why, you might ask, do I have a certain fondness for the turban? I kind of feel this quote from Miss Dita von Teese in Inked Magazine is perfectly fitting of my love...

"Paris. As an eccentric, I feel most comfortable there. I was having tea in one of my favorite restaurants there recently, and I was wearing a 1940’s turban. I looked around, and I saw two other women in turbans. They were like, 90 years old, but I thought, “This is the place for me!”

I can't tell you how many times I wonder, am I really 27 years old? Or perhaps just a 90-year-old trapped in a young body? Am I alone in this feeling?
